TUPM ECE students stand out in BICSI Asia Conference

TUP Manila’s Department of Electronics Engineering received two major awards in the ICT Skills and Challenge awards during the Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Southeast Asia AI-Driven Digital World Conference and Exhibition Philippines, held at SMX Convention Hall 1 & 2, SM Aura BGC, Taguig City, on October 7-8, 2025.

During the last day and awarding ceremony, TUP Manila stood out as the only university awarded for having the “Most Number of Delegates,” with students and professors actively engaging in sessions, panel discussions, and Q&A sessions, including Dr. Lean Karlo S. Tolentino, Dean of the College of Engineering, Engr. Cherry G. Pascion, the Department Head of ECE, Engr. Mark P. Melegrito, Engr. Jomer V. Catipon, Engr. Ma. Editha A. Grande, Engr. Jessica S. Velasco, Engr. Edmon O. Fernandez Engr. Gilfred Allen Madrigal.

In another achievement, students Judea Pauline Loria, Suzanne Marquez, Princess Cyna Ng, Anabelle Sebastian, and Daphne Grace Villaralvo joined and won the ICT Skills and Challenge.

In an interview with Villaralvo, she stated that her experience during the YFC Training Academy Workshop held at TUP Manila gave her an advantage over the other contestants. “I practiced fiber optics splicing on Day 1 and copper splicing on Day 2.” She also added, “The struggles I faced during the competition were mainly the anxiety of not performing well and the fear of not finishing the given tasks or having large, unacceptable margins of error.” Despite those challenges, she achieved an impressive score of 98 percent.

This event, organized by BICSI with the theme “AI-Driven Digital World: Shaping the Future of ICT in Southeast Asia,” gathered national and international delegates, including professionals and students from various fields such as IE, PEE, REE, PECE, ECE, ICT, and RM. It aims to promote sustainable growth and empower future ICT leaders by providing high-quality education, certifications, and professional development opportunities, with presentations, panel discussions, and exhibitions from different companies in Southeast Asia.

The participation of ECE students served as a testament that the ECE Department of TUPM is actively engaging in opportunities that will benefit and help the field not only through innovation but also by promoting green technology. It also provides our future engineers with the chance to take the initiative in creating solutions to current issues while considering their impact on the environment and society, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable future.
