College of Management and Multidisciplinary Studies
College of Management and Multidisciplinary Studies
HISTORY
The College of Management and Multidisciplinary Studies (CMMS) of the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) traces its institutional origin to the former College of Liberal Arts (CLA), which functioned primarily as a service college responsible for delivering general education courses in the humanities, social sciences, communication, and related disciplines. As a foundational academic unit, it supported the University’s technology-oriented programs by developing students’ critical thinking, communication competence, ethical reasoning, and social awareness.
In response to evolving higher education demands and labor market needs, the College progressively expanded its academic scope beyond its traditional liberal arts mandate. It introduced and strengthened programs in management, entrepreneurship, hospitality, and related multidisciplinary fields, thereby aligning its academic offerings with industry requirements and national development priorities.
A significant institutional development was the issuance of Implementing Order No. 32 series of 2025, which formally renamed the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) as the College of Management and Multidisciplinary Studies (CMMS). This reclassification signified not merely a change in nomenclature but an expanded academic mandate, reflecting the College’s strengthened role in delivering management and multidisciplinary education responsive to contemporary educational trends and industry needs.
At present, CMMS is composed of four academic departments: the Department of Business Administration, Department of Entrepreneurship, Department of Hospitality Management, and Department of Multidisciplinary Studies. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs including the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Operations Management (BSBA-OM), Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (BSEn), Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM), Master in Management (MM), and Doctor in Management Science (DMS). Guided by its core functions of instruction, research, extension, and stakeholder engagement, the College remains committed to producing competent, innovative, ethical, and socially responsible professionals who contribute to sustainable development, organizational advancement, and nation-building in a globalized knowledge economy.
